Guns.com covers the disturbing new situation concerning California gun shows. It is well known that California has some of the most stringent gun control laws in the nation. So, this news from Guns.com is, unfortunately, not that surprising. But the gun control paranoia is even rampant in relatively conservative part of California, Orange County. For example, gun shows that for years have shown exemplary safety records are having issues:
The Crossroads of the West gun show has operated out of Del Mar for over 25 years but may have to find other digs if local activists get their way. California gun shows increasingly under siege
Also, this isn’t about safety as the Crossroads of the West was not accused of violating any laws.
Although the events were cumulatively valued at over $278,000 for the county and the California Rifle & Pistol Association is pointing out that the Costa Mesa Gun Show has a perfect record of complying with both local and state laws, the fair board said they are being cautious. Orange County is not the only one pumping the brakes on gun shows. At the state-owned Cow Palace in Daly City, state Sen. Scott Wiener and state Assemblyman Phil Ting — both Democrats from San Francisco — are backing SB 221, a bill that would specifically bar the historic arena from hosting events that would involve the sale of guns or ammunition.
